The Italian Glass Weeks

17th September 2022 19:00 – 21:00

L'ARMONICA

Cantata for Soprano, Glass Harmonica and Orchestra

Venice Music Project welcomes you to experience a true and unique Baroque Concert Experience during the Italian Glass Weeks 2022. We will take you back in time to 1769, to listen to the Cantata “L’Armonica” for Soprano, Glass Harmonica, and Orchestra, which was written for the festivities around the marriage of Ferdinando di Borbone, Duke of Parma and Piacenza, with the Archduchess Maria Amalia of Austria.

The cantata is also noteworthy for its use of the Glass Harmonica, an instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin in London in 1761, which had taken Europe by storm. Venice Music Project Ensemble has invited the wonderful Siberian glass harmonica virtuoso, Igor Skylarov, to join them and resident soprano Liesl Odenweller in recreating the magical duet of voice and glass harmonica.
