Gioele Gusberti

From Cremona, he studied Baroque and Classical cello with C. Frigerio after earning his diploma with E. Contini. He then completed his studies with G. Nasillo and later refined his cello playing with A. Gervreau, M. Valli, A. Palmeri, and S. Vegetti. He focuses primarily on chamber music, collaborating with ensembles such as Accademia Montis Regalis, Milano Classica, Stagione Armonica, Concert de’ Cavalieri, Cenacolo Musicale, and Ensemble Il Continuo.

He has also performed as principal cellist under the direction of conductors including T. Koopman, D. Gutknecht, A. De Marchi, E. Höbarth, L. Ghielmi, S. Balestracci, and G. Capuano.

He has appeared in numerous concerts, many as a soloist, in prestigious venues and festivals, as well as on tours across Europe and Japan. He has contributed to award-winning recordings of chamber music released by Discantica, Bongiovanni, Tactus, Velut Luna, L.C. Centaurus, Hyperion, Amadeus, Brilliant, Sony, and Urania Records.

As a soloist, he recorded, for the first time, the 12 Sonatas from Trattenimento Musicale by D. Galli, the Eight Duets for Two Violoncellos by Giovanni Battista Cirri, and the XII Sonatas for Cello and Basso Continuo by Giovanni Battista Somis.

His interest in historically informed performance has led him to publish essays on recordings and to coordinate musicological publications, including transcriptions of unpublished works for Musedita and Diastema (on which he served on its scientific committee in September 2014). For Armelin-Padova he edited a volume entitled “11 transcriptions for 3 & 4-part Cello Ensemble” with introduction by Giovanni Gnocchi.

He has delivered several seminars as a lecturer and, since 2008, has collaborated with the specialist magazine Archi Magazine in Rome, contributing essays, articles, interviews, and reviews.

He plays on a cello by Christian Guidetti – Locarno, kindly loaned to him by the maker, and on a cello from the private collection of M. Maggi of Cremona.
