Restaurants:

Near Scuola Grande dei Carmini, our concert venue:
  • Osteria Ai Artisti – on Rio della Toletta (not to be confused with the bar of the same name in nearby Campo San Barnaba!)
  • Estro – between the Carmini and the Frari, this hidden gem of a restaurant combines an innovative menu with a great wine list.

Further afield:

  • Al Covo – near the Arsenale. They have been friends for years, and their food and hospitality are unparalleled.
  • Osteria Santa Marina – Campo Santa Marina, near Rialto.
  • Ai Cacciatori – Giudecca. Young owners; consistently wonderful meals.
  • Bar Palanca – Giudecca (lunch only) – fantastic hosts and great food, at local prices.

Bacari (wine bars):

  • Enoteca Gia’ Schiavi – Rio di San Trovaso. Best ombre and cicchetti, frequented by locals and visitors in the know.
  • Corner Pub — We love these guys, because not only are they 3 steps from our former musical home, so we were there constantly on breaks, but they are also super-nice to everyone we send there! And we still make our way over there when we can.
  • Cantina Do Mori – near Rialto. A tradition after marketing.
  • Bar ai Nomboli – Campiello dei Nomboli, between Campo San Polo and Campo San Toma’. Best tramezzini anywhere. Really. And they have an incredible assortment of sandwiches at lunchtime, which has recently expanded to include soups and other dishes.

Favorite lesser-known things to see:

  • Ca’ Rezzonico Museum – near Campo San Barnaba. A jewel of a museum in the palazzo where Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning made their home.
  • Scala del Bovolo – near Campo Manin. Recently reopened, and worth climbing to the top for the view.
  • Campanile (bell tower) of San Giorgio Maggiore – Isola di San Giorgio. No lines, and a better view than San Marco’s campanile because you also get to look at San Marco.

Shopping:

  • Gualti – Rio tera’ Canal near Campo San Barnaba. One of the most creative local artisans, producing ethereal jewels and accessories.
  • Genninger Studio – near Guggemheim and Ca’ Dario. Venice’s best authentic Murano glass jewelry and goblets.
  • Anita Paper Project Venice — Salizzada Malipiero, near Campo Santo Stefano and Palazzo Grassi. Step into Anita’s world of incredible artwork – all made from paper!
  •  Francesca La Bottega – Located between Strada Nuova and Rio di San Marcuola, you will find one of the most beautiful collections of glass jewellery, craftsmanship and design, between tradition and novelty.

Favorite Hotels:

    • Ca’ della Corte — You won’t believe that such an oasis can be found merely 5 minutes from Piazzale Roma. Generous hostess Caterina Pensa couldn’t be more accommodating — your stay will be unforgettable.
    • Hotel Palazzo Stern — This elegant restored palazzo at Ca’ Rezzonico is one of the loveliest in this part of town. Amazing views, and wonderful staff.
    • Hotel Gabrielli Sandwirth— Riva degli Schiavoni. You might find it hard to believe that a hotel on the Riva could be so nice and quiet! (Recently under restoration)

The Vigna Belvedere Estate

The Vigna Belvedere Estate, with cool streams of water marking its boundaries, is pleasantly set between the lagoon of Venice and the Carnic Alps, in the Province of Pordenone, region of Friuli Venezia Giulia (North East of Italy). The farm boasts a longstanding family ownership and a deeply rooted tradition of farming based on the respect for nature and the environment. The present owner-manager, Elisabetta, supported by her son Andrea, planted new vineyards with the introduction of a more modern approach to viticulture, paying greater attention to the health and life of the vine, to ensure a production of better quality.

This recently planted vineyard covers 11 hectares, with both white and red grapes, and 8 more hectares are planted with Glera vines, selected to produce the Prosecco DOC (Registered Designation of Origin). The  Prosecco Vigna Belvedere, both Extra Dry and Brut, is produced using the Charmat Method, where the secondary, long and slow fermentation, brought about by added yeasts, takes place in stainless steel tanks, to then be passed directly to the bottle, under controlled pressure.

Organoleptic profile Extra Dry Prosecco DOC Vigna Belvedere:

Vivid light straw yellow colour with fine, lingering perlage and delicate foam. Pleasantly supple fruity bouquet with a fresh and round flavor of ripe apples and pears and some ethereal notes of spring blossom. Excellent for cocktails, aperitifs, cheese and desserts. Serve chilled at 4-6°

Organoleptic profile Brut  Prosecco DOC Vigna Belvedere:

Attractive light straw yellow colour, with fine and persistent perlage. Pleasant and fresh bouquet with aromas of meadow herbs and grasses. Finely controlled acidity with flavors of green apple, almond and vanilla. Ideal with starters, light meals or fish and shellfish. Serve chilled at 4-6°
