Happy 1600th Birthday, Venice !!!

Venice flag

On Thursday, 25th March, Venice will be 1600 years old!

The birth of the city goes back to March 25, 421, when the first stone of the Church of San Giacometto (or San Giacometo) was laid. It seems that the first settlement in Venice took place on an island in the lagoon that was a little higher than the others, and that was known as Rivus Altus, a term from which the name Rialto was derived.

However, it seems that this is only a legend, and that the origins of Venice are not very clear.

Unfortunately, the foundation of Venice cannot be traced back to a precise historical date, and there are two visions regarding the foundation of the city. The first hypothesis is that the city was founded by Trojan refugees, while the second sees Venice coming into being with Attila’s invasion.

No matter what happened in the past, every Venetian knows that Venice’s birthday is the 25th of March! So we are planning a program of music by two of Venice’s best-loved composerts for you, to be watched in live-streaming!
