– William Byrd and the Golden Age of English Music –
St. Botolph Singers Cambridge, UK
2023 celebrates the 400th anniversary of William Byrd’s death in 1623. Along with his older colleague, Thomas Tallis, their music represents the pinnacle of Renaissance music composed both for the Catholic liturgy and for the newly-founded English Protestant Church and its Book of Common Prayer. Our concert will explore many different facets of this amazing polyphony, so much of which owes a musical debt to the Italian composer Palestrina and his contemporaries.
Music by William Byrd and Thomas Tallis.
