HIDDEN TREASURES OF BOUGHTON HOUSE RETURN TO VENICE
— Special Gala Evening in the Tiepolo Hall —
The Grand Tour to Europe was a tradition of the British aristocrats in the 18th century, returning home after their continental travels with art objects and musical manuscripts. Musical archaeology at Boughton House (UK) has unearthed several unique manuscripts with the repertoire of the Venetian Theatres favoured by Elizabeth Montague, 3rd Duchess of Buccleuch (1743-1827). In this special evening we perform some of these musical gems for the first time in over 200 years.
First Performance in modern times of music by Johann Adolf Hasse, Giuseppe Maria Orlandini, Giovanni Porta and Nicola Porpora
