FARINELLI IN VENICE
The great castrato Farinelli was one of the superstars of his time, and his fame has remained in history. Although he had phenomenal range and unparalleled vocal dexterity, Farinelli was best known for the depth of emotion and drama he could convey with his singing. This program presents arias similar to ones that he would have interpreted in Venice at his vocal and dramatic peak. Farinelli performed in Venice in 1728 at the Teatro San Giovanni Grisostomo (today’s Teatro Malibran).
Music by Georg Friedrich Haendel, Nicola Fago & Antonio Vivaldi
