– Claudio in Autumn –
The divine Claudio Monteverdi, Maestro di Cappella of the Most Serene Republic of Venice, sits in front of his fire, lost in thought as he peels a few roasted chestnuts. This concert program is dedicated to his duets and his compositions for solo voice on the theme of love, sometimes happy or melancholy, or perhaps even furious and passionate, with intercessions by the violins. Here we have alternated sonatas by the Jewish composer Salomone Rossi with the vocal selections of Monteverdi. Rossi was a colleague of Monteverdi in Mantova from 1592, and by order of the Duke Vincenzo directed the string section.
