Lament has long been associated with the feminine voice, spanning history from the Bible to Mediterranean traditions, and finding in the convent a privileged space of expression. The works of Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Maria Francesca Nascimbeni and other female composers reveal the many facets of women’s voices in music: mother, wife, nun, artist.
