Alexander Simpson

Praised for his ‘extraordinary stage presence’ and ‘sublimely melodic voice’, Alexander Simpson is a versatile young countertenor who has been earmarked as ‘the voice of his generation’ (The Times).

His recent operatic engagements have taken him to some of Europe’s most prestigious stages, with notable roles including Farnace Il Farnace (Prague State Opera), Tolomeo Giulio Cesare (Warsaw Chamber Opera and English Touring Opera), Ottone Agrippina (Teatro San Carlo) and Arcane Teseo (London Handel Festival).

Prizes include the Fondazione Cesti Opera Fellowship, the Premio Accademia Monteverdi, the Accademia Vivaldi Scholarship at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, the Rosalind Armstrong Prize and the Tony Lowrey Audience Prize in the Hurn Court Opera Singing Competition and the Rosenblatt Recitals Singing Prize.

In addition, Alexander gives masterclasses and recitals in some of the most prestigious European opera houses and worldwide and is in his sixth year of regular collaboration with Venice Music Project.

Alexander read Music at St John’s College, Cambridge. He went on to the Royal Academy of Music where he was awarded a full scholarship and graduated with a DipRAM for an outstanding final recital.
